The Black and Indian Mission Office is comprised of three distinct but inter-related organizations, each with its own purpose and history, but all seeking to fulfill the one Mission to the Missions! Founded by the Catholic bishops of the United States, each organization cooperates with local diocesan communities to spread the Good News of Jesus Christ and respond to real and pressing needs on the ground. The Black and Indian Mission Collection exists to help local African American and Native American Diocesan Communities throughout the United States spread the Good News of Jesus Christ and respond to real and pressing needs on the ground.
Some highlights of our activities, which funding from the Black and Indian Mission of the Black and Indian Mission Office has helped to make possible, are listed below.
St. Charles Apache Mission School offers a high-quality Catholic education rooted in Apache identity for children living on the San Carlos Apache Indian Reservation. Students explore their faith through weekly Masses, prayer services, and sacramental preparation.
At Our Lady Queen of Martyrs, we decided to do an Earth Day Parade to advertise protecting the Earth for future generations. To get ready for the parade, the students did Earth Day activities.
HNOJ was blessed to have four RCIA catechumens this year we attended the Rite of Election at the Our Lady of Angeles Cathedral. They participated in classes from the four-neighboring parishes (Holy Name of Jesus, St Bernadette, St Brigid and Transfiguration).
St. Anthony Indian Mission is 100 years old and we simply had to celebrate. The celebration began with the bishop, clergy and servers processing into the gym where a group of our students welcomed them with Zuni cultural dancing.
