St. Joseph's Challenge 24 Competition... Making Math

October 30, 2019

St. Joseph School, Lucinda, PA

The school year is off to a great start! The students work hard on their academics and deserve an afternoon break. They are excited about socializing with their friends out on the playground.

One of our goals this school year is to increase our students' overall growth in Math. The teachers use Math games in the classroom to help the students master their basic facts and to build their problem-solving skills. In the picture, the students are playing Challenge 24 to increase their fluency in multiplication, division, addition, and subtraction facts and to increase their problem-solving skills. Each year our students in grades 4 - 6 attend a Challenge 24 Competition with other schools in the Diocese of Erie.

ALSO St Joseph Robotics - 2019 Third grade!!!!!!

This year, with Mrs. F, we'll be teaching robotics to third graders for the first time! We're going to start by building solar powered walking robots using recycled soda cans. The second part of the class will be dedicated to programming the SPHERO SPRK+ robots. Here's a picture of the materials that we'll be using, along with the assembled walking robot.
