A Time for Reflection (May 31st, 2022)

Our Lady Queen of Martyrs

The Lenten season always reminds us that we should spring clean our hearts like we might spring clean our homes. We do this with prayer, fasting, and almsgiving. During this time, students make promises to better themselves in different ways. On Ash Wednesday, all students receive the cross on their forehead to signify our proud Catholic beliefs. Every Friday, classes attended Stations to learn the story of Jesus' greatest sacrifice for our sins. OLQM held a food drive for the less fortunate through the St. Vincent de Paul Society. Mrs. McDonald's 5th grade class took it a step further and turned it into a lesson about nonprofit organizations. Each group of students created their own nonprofit, agreed on a name and purpose, and set a goal for their group to contribute. They realized all the hard work that goes into running a nonprofit organization and many of the jobs needed to run them. We raised over $500 and filled their pantry with food and other essentials that would last many months for those in need. St. Vincent de Paul volunteers showed gratitude and thanked our students for their generosity and willingness to help. Our hearts were filled and ready for Easter.
