Basilica of St Mary of the Immaculate Conception
It started with a pep-rally, the Faith Formation year at the Basilica of Saint Mary of the Immaculate Conception. “Give me a ‘J’…You got your ‘J’” …”What do you have ….Jesus…”
Parents, youths and children gathered for the start of the new Christian Formation year. We used the “Jesus Cheer “to generate excitement.
Several children stated who Jesus is to them. “Son of God…Jesus; He’s my friend… Jesus; I love him…Jesus.” Whether in a loud voice or a shy soft voice, they added their part to the cheer.
Mr. Frank, Coordinator of Christian Formation, led us in prayer and welcomed everyone. He gave a brief overview of the program as a whole for the year and introduced the catechists by grade level. After singing, cheering and banner waving, the students and their parents proceeded to classrooms to hear what each catechist would be doing in the coming year.
The catechists encourage the students to discover their gifts and to use them in their various communities, gaining an understanding of our roles in community is very important. The students hear the Gospel readings, related stories and Church Tradition.
The students and their parents engaged in fun activities that explain how the classes work. Parents were given information about how the catechist teach the lessons so that they can better follow-up the learning at home. Some of the parents volunteered to help with class projects.
Due to the generosity of the Black and Indian Mission, we are able to provide more learning opportunities and events for our children and youth. We thank for your generosity.
