Tigua Native American Ministry

The community of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Parish and the people of Ysleta de Sur Pueblo came together to celebrate and culturally bring to conclusion the Christmas season.

The community came together on February 2, Feast of the Presentation of the Lord. The evening began in the Mission church of San Antonio de Padua de el Pueblo de la Ysleta de Sur where the Christ Child was picked up from the Blessed Mother and Joseph. Members of the Pueblos traditional council prepared and blessed Him for the procession. The community processed the Christ Child and the Blessed Mother to Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church. Children dress as angles, and children from the Pueblo dressed as the Blessed Mother and Joseph to carry the baby Jesus in the procession. Once at the Church, candles, and the baby Jesus from family’s home nativity scenes were blessed. At the conclusion of the service people were invite to cradle and rock the baby Jesus to sleep, bringing the Christmas season to an end.

A beautiful tradition truly walking with the Christ child since being laid in the crèche on Christmas eve.
