Early in March 2018 student’s in Mrs. Mazoros’ 2nd grade classroom read the story in their reader, “Mr. Tanen’s Tie Trouble”. In the story students learned a valuable life lesson, “the more you give, the more you get back”. The class decided to hold a contest in order to raise money for the Rescue Mission in Youngstown. This was the class’ Lenten almsgiving project. Students earned a ticket when they brought in loose change. Mrs. Mazoros pulled two tickets from the basket to see who won the filled Easter basket prizes. The winners are: Amiya Mendez and Kyle Johnson.

On March 29, 2018, Chrystal Eckman from the Rescue Mission visited the school to receive a check for $103.50, proceeds from students’ month-long contest. Ms. Eckman spoke to the students about the ways they were helping the poor in the Valley with their donation to the Rescue Mission.
