Students at Immaculate Conception Parish School participated in a poster contest hosted by the local Garden Club. The focus of the posters was the celebration of Smokey Bear's 75th birthday. The students in grades 1 - 6 were to draw Smokey Bear on their posters with the tag line: "Only you can prevent wildfires".
Smokey came for a visit with representatives from the Garden Club and from DCNR (Department of Conservation and Natural Resources). They presented the top three posters in each grade with ribbons.
Out of five county schools that participated, four First Place winners came from Immaculate Conception Parish School! The winners that went on to the State Competition are from first, second, third and fourth grades. There was so much excitement buzzing through entire school when that announcement was made!
