Catholic Diocese of Richmond
The National Black Men Conference took place in Richmond, Oct. 18-21, 2018, and I carried out the agreement made with the previous director, Pam Harris, and the National Organization. The money was used to rent buses to transport the participants from the Hotel to Holy Rosary where will take the final celebration and reception-dinner. Thanks to the Black and Indian grant we provided transportation (3 buses) and reception-dinner after the Closing Mass.
Here there is the feedback of one of our volunteers to support the success of this event.
Ms. Gretta wrote to us: “The Men’s Conference celebration of Mass and the dinner reception were a huge success. Team Work “got & done!” It was a joyful, faith filled and proud day for Holy Rosary, and the Office of Black Catholics of the Richmond diocese. Thank you for all you did to help make this a success. The meal was plentiful and delicious! The many parish volunteers who set up, provided the beautiful Afro-centric liturgical environment and reception decorations for the tables and rooms, served, offered hospitality, provided the desert, and cleaned up are to be commended. Of special recognition is Sam Patterson, Chair of Holy Rosary’s Parish Community Life committee and member of the Knights of Columbus. He is an event planner of the highest order! John Sweet, DRE at St. Mary’s even got in on the act by lending us at the last minute, the additional tables and chairs we needed to accommodate the large group. We are thankful to John and St Mary’s for their kindness and quick response. Fr. David and Deacon Frank were gracious hosts, and well represented our parish and diocese with spirit and aplomb. It was wonderful experiencing it all coming together. So true, as Sacred Scripture reminds us, that “all things are possible for those who love God”! Have I gushed enough? It indeed was s Spirit-filled Saturday due to the collaboration of many! It indeed “takes a village.” Please extend our thanks to everyone in your office who assisted in any way.”
