Resurrection Student During Quarantine
Elianne Nishimwe is an eighth grader at Resurrection school in Lansing Michigan. Her family worked together to make the most of the stay home orders by creating a family business. Eliana has always loved to sew, but it was not easy to do so in the family’s living room. However, her older brother saw the opportunity to help her by transforming a storage room into a studio so Elianne could start making masks. Once the studio was finished, Elianne and her sister opened up sales online. It only took hours for the 300 masks they had made were sold out.
Elianne and her family have come together during quarantine to make the most of the “Stay Home” Executive orders, but this is not the worst hardship her family has faced. Their father died tragically after they came to the United States as refugees. The family has managed by leaning on their faith and the support of a generous pastor and parishioners who are helping provide Elianne, the youngest child, receive a Catholic education.

Resurrection Graduates Organize Safe Protest
Reese Robinson and Indie Romero are Resurrection graduates from 2018 and are currently sophomores at Lansing Catholic High School in Lansing Michigan. These two girls were saddened by the news of George Floyd’s death in Minneapolis that they organized a peaceful protest for other students and families to publicly show their concern about racial injustice in our country.
In a time when there is so much division, we need opportunities like this to show our students, families, and the world that we are united as One Body in Christ, One People of God. Although, we may have differences, we believe that if one member of the body suffers, we all suffer. (CCC 791)
