Black Catholic Mission

Sisters Academy of Baltimore operates on a trimester system and culminates each day with its extended-day programming, known internally as ExCEL (Exploring, Creating, and Expanding Learning).

Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church was blessed to host Deacon Harold Burke-Sivers for their parish Lenten Mission from Friday, February 28 through Sunday, March 3, 2026.

“Because Ms. Trotter plays it at Mass every week.” That simple statement from our kindergarteners captured something profound about the power of consistent, quality arts integration in Catholic education.

The choir performed three songs before the reenactment and a featured soloist sang for each one. Ms. Perteete guided them on the piano.

The last few months have been filled with outreach activity to evangelize for the growth of Ministry for Black Catholics in the Diocese of Wilmington.

On October 4, 2025, the new Archbishop of Detroit visited Gesu church and school to celebrate Mass and take a tour of the school. This was on the feast day of St. Francis of Assisi and Archbishop Weisenburger came in recognition of Gesu’s important work.
