Holy Family Catholic School
Holy Family Catholic School community is pleased to invite our church, school, and community to visit and enjoy the beautiful mural created at the entrance of the middle school classes.
The mural project was spearheaded by Ms. Maria Cox, the Art teacher; she has always been very impressed with the talents of many students, and wanted to encourage the targeted and volunteer students to leave their prints at Holy Family. She first built a team of interested students who spent over a month coming up with a theme. The students came up with a rough sketch of a star, representing the Virgin Mary who always veils her children. The star expands over the earth where our Mother can be seen in every woman from every community. The power of Mary is displayed through the beauty and celebration of people, flowers, plants, birds, the sea
Ms. Cox was so amazed and excited about the theme that she reached out to a family that has been providing tremendous support to the school: Olga and Henry Santos. The couple embraced the project and pledged to cover all necessary expenses.
Since May is the official month of Mary, Holy Family Catholic School inaugurated the beautiful mural in honor of our Holy Mother on May 28, 2024. During the ceremony, the school principal reminded the students how Mary demonstrated true obedience to God and full submission to Him & His calling on our life. She emphasized that the mural which pinpoints the fascination of diversity has been built for the school and church community to serve as a visual iconic reminder to pray and worship the Blessed Mother as one family with diverse gifts, background, and needs.
Father Bellonce, the church pastor, led a moving prayer and blessing in front of the mural for students in grades K-3 and staff members. He commented that Mary’s light brightens the world. In addition, the Holy Family students sang hymnals with lyrics referencing the Gentle Mother and the vitality of her faith in God. This ceremony was in thanksgiving to the Virgin Mary for both giving us Jesus and an example of how to listen to God’s instruction to embrace diversity and serve our Lord under the mantle our our Holy Mother.
