Immaculate Conception Parish School
PA State Representative Donna Oberlander visited Mr. John Greenawalt’s sixth grade social studies class at Immaculate Conception Parish School Tuesday, May 28th. She was invited for a Q&A session to help them reinforce what they are learning about the Federal and State government. Representative Oberlander was very helpful in aiding the students with their understanding of how the Electoral College works. The students had a myriad of questions for her, to which she answered every one in turn.
The topics discussed included the art of compromise for budgets and bills, qualifications to become a state representative, legislative sessions, why she loves her job, the hardest part of her job, George Washington, and the Founding Fathers. She wholeheartedly encouraged the students and their families to tour the State Capital building and watch a legislative session in progress. Representative Oberlander also told them the story of her first time speaking on the house floor and how nervous she was. The students were genuinely impressed when she mentioned that she was the first woman to be elected as House Policy Chairperson.
Her love of politics, her constituents, and the 63rd District was greatly seen in the Q&A session.
