Annual Black History Program Honoring Fr. Horace McKenna

March 04, 2020

St. Peter Claver Catholic Church

St. Peter Claver celebrated its Annual Black History program and kicked off the program honoring Father Horace McKenna, a priest who made his way to St. Peter Claver in the early 1900s, where he served as the pastor for over 20 years, and since then, SPC Church Hall is named after him. This event was open to the community and family members and friends of SPC attended. The history of Fr. McKenna was given and a display of photos that depicted the hard work and dedication Fr. McKenna gave to the SPC community. Black history trivia provided a history lesson to everyone in attendance and prizes were given to persons with the correct answers. The SPC Dance ministry gave a beautiful praise dance performance worshiping God with music and dance. The dance ministry is comprised primarily of children enrolled in our CCD Program who are learning how to praise and worship God through music and dance. Most of those who attended also were proud to wear their cultural attire to celebrate our culture as African Americans. As always, a delicious meal was served including everyone’s favorite, fried fish, along with other traditional breakfast food. Everyone in attendance enjoyed the event.
