Holy Family Classical School
As the 2022-2023 school year commences, it gives us great pleasure to share our newest hires at Holy Family Classical School. During a national teacher shortage, we consider ourselves lucky to be full staffed with teachers who believe in our school pursuit of truth, goodness, and beauty in a joyfully Catholic environment. Competitive teacher salaries were made possible in part by the generous funding of the Catholic Negro American Mission Board. Let me introduce you to:
Upon completion of years of internships and formative first-hand experiences in education, Mrs. White earned an associate’s, bachelor’s, and master’s in education in quick succession. Her master’s focused on reading, in particular, and given her teaching experience since that time, she now describes herself as an expert in differentiated instruction. With broad teaching experience dating back as far as 2001, Mrs. White brings to our community many years of thoughtful engagement in education, both in schools and at home.
Dr. Karyn Grzeskowiak Williams
Dr. Karyn Grzeskowiak Williams, a parishioner of Holy Family Cathedral Parish, holds a Ph.D. from Dartmouth in physical chemistry and was an instant fit (and hit!) with our team. Given her many years of experience teaching in the upper elementary years, it made the most sense for us to invite Dr. Williams to join our team as the 7th, 8th, and 9th grade science teacher, a role she has graciously accepted.
Sarah comes to us from Anchorage, Alaska, where she taught for four years at Holy Rosary Academy and for an additional year as a math instructor for a homeschool collective. Prior to her move to Alaska she also taught for a parochial school in California for a year. A graduate of Thomas Aquinas College, Sarah describes herself as "a hard-working individual who enjoys serving others."
Melissa we discovered here in our own midst. Little have we known this past year that Melissa holds a bachelor's in education with an emphasis on special education from Gonzaga University. On and off since 2016, she has served as a 1st and 2nd grade teacher using classical curriculum, as a long-term substitute teacher for Kolbe Academy and Trinity Prep, and as a professional childcare provider for PK-K children. She is a certified Master Catechist who, in her new role, is pleased to pursue CGS certification, growth in her understanding of Holy Family's Catholic and classical mission, and an opportunity to share what she knows with the least (and thus the greatest) among us.
Becca we all know well, of course, as she has been serving as our Violin Instructor for grades 4 to 8 for the past year-plus. This year we are delighted to welcome her to a full-time role in the Montessori Casita on the lower level of the school, where she will serve as Montessori Assistant to Amber Pequito in our newest programmatic addition. Ms. Niles will generously continue in her role as Violin Instructor as well for 4th grade and up.
Dr. Phil Anderson
Dr. Phil, Assistant Headmaster, brings to our community a rich formation, a wealth of experience, and a profound love for our Catholic and classical mission and identity. He holds a bachelor's in aerospace engineering, a master's in mathematics with an emphasis on teaching, and a doctorate in higher education administration with an emphasis on community colleges. For twenty-three years he has taught and administrated in community college settings, and for an additional two years he has taught at the high school level. Dr. Phil is especially delighted to join a community that is proud to profess openly our shared faith in Christ our Lord.
It brings me great pleasure to announce the hire of Mr. James Hayner as our incoming 6th grade teacher. Mr. Hayner holds a bachelor's in theology from Ave Maria University and brings to Holy Family an extraordinary intelligence combined with unparalleled intuition and understated liveliness. We are looking forward to his spirited engagement with our school community, both in the classroom and also in the arena of the Irish tune and the traditional Irish lyric, areas in which Mr. Hayner, as an Irishmen, excels.
