Basilica of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception
In January 2018, 15 men assembled for the inception of the Men’s Prayer Ministry at the Basilica of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception, to pray, worship, and glorify our Lord and Savior. They were proud to sponsor their first Men’s Prayer Retreat in June of this year. Forty-five men, from the Basilica, other churches and various age groups, attended.
The theme of the retreat replicated the ministry’s theme, “As iron sharpens iron, man sharpens man” (Proverbs 27:17). The participants, spiritually tuned through song, praise, and prayer, were ready for Father Jim Curran’s scripture reading and reflection about men supporting and loving each other.
Deacon Bailey ended the retreat with a ceremony, “Hands to Work”, where the men washed each other’s hands to show humility and support for each other. Spiritual and thought provoking questions were discussed in small groups. One participant feels that our pastor is a little edgy and that appeals to men. In the following weeks many comments resonated with one particular comment, “Outstanding retreat and what a pleasure being around men who love God and are not afraid to show it.”
Thank you, Lord, for a special day in the lives of each man attending. We love you and glorify your daily works.
