The 2015 Black History Month Prayer Service was held on Saturday, February 21, 2015 at St. Martin de Porres Parish in Milwaukee, WI. Sponsored by the Black Catholic Ministry Commission of the Archdiocese of Milwaukee, the Commission is attempting to focus their communal prayer events by the National Black Catholic Commission pastoral plan #2 listed in the Black Catholic Josephat calendars. The theme of the NBCC Pastoral Plan #2 is the “Dignity of Human Life.”
The Celebrant was Fr. John Celichowski, OFM Cap., Office of Post-Novitiate, Ministry and Continuing Formation, Capuchin Province of St. Joseph. Fr. John spoke on “Lent: A Time for Mercy,” to reflect on the grace of God in light of Jesus’ ministry of reconciliation and the call we have heard from Pope Francis to “go to the peripheries” of society and share what God has so generously given to us.
The prayer service was well-attended with 70 in attendance. Two Marquette University High School students performed a song and a simple reflection on human dignity as it relates to young people, and they did an excellent job.
