Archdiocese of Boston

On January 21, 2019 was the thirty-fourth annual Rev. Martin Luther King Prayer Breakfast at St. Katharine Drexel Parish in Boston, Massachusetts. Despite the frigid temperatures, around 150 people came to enjoy this event. We hosted Byron Barnett from WHDH TV who shared about how Dr. King influenced his life and career. We also had a spirited reading by Maria Grace of a speech given by Mrs. King “We May Not Yet Only Survive, We May Triumph.” Father Oscar Pratt gave the opening prayer and welcome while Father J. Bryan Hehir gave a few remarks on behalf of Cardinal Sean O’Malley and the invocation. The Boston Black Catholic choir inspired us with their music.

At the Black History Month Mass and the National Day of Prayer for Families of African Descent Bishop J. Terry Steib SVD preached a stirring homily, which was also held at St. Katharine Drexel in Boston. The Nigerian Community Choir and the Black Catholic Choir provided wonderful music, members of the Knights of Peter Claver and Ladies Auxiliary served as lectors and processed up with the offertory gifts, students from Nativity Prep assisted by serving as greeters. This event was attended by around 300 people who came from all over the archdiocese.
