Archbishop Carroll High School

Archbishop Carroll High School is a Catholic high school, located in the Brookland neighborhood of Northeast Washington, which has proudly enjoyed a long history of being a strong, faith-based academic institution of the Archdiocese of Washington. Archbishop Carroll welcomes young people of all backgrounds and empowers them in a rigorous, diverse, and supportive learning environment.

Avery Middleton is a senior at Archbishop Carroll who has challenged himself with a rigorous academic schedule that includes International Baccalaureate (I.B.) History and Digital Electronics. Over this past summer, this rising star attended an aviation camp at St. Francis University in Loretto, Pennsylvania. After graduation, he plans to attend flight school to become a commercial pilot.

Outside of the classroom, Avery volunteered for the annual Thanksgiving food drive and the Carroll STEM Expo, where he was a presenter for the Robotics team. He enjoyed interacting and communicating the processes of the 3D printers to the Expo attendees.

"Avery is one of the most critical-thinking students I have taught. He never fails to draw connections between subjects or to see the larger concept when studying events in World History. This is displayed in his writing and in-class discussions. Avery has not only taken to History but also Engineering, two subjects that seem to have inspired his intellectual growth, which has significantly contributed to his academic curiosity here at Carroll," says Mr. Willetts, Social Studies Teacher.

For more than twelve years, the Black and Indian Mission Office has provided tuition assistance to hundreds of African American students, like Avery. Such support is needed to give all an opportunity to learn in a wholesome, faith-based rigorous environment – building a foundation for our future leaders to soar.
