Holy Cross Students Learn About the Saints

November 05, 2019

Holy Cross Church

Holy Cross Parish has begun our religious education program for the 2019-2010 school year. Our classes are held on Sundays after the 10:30 Mass. We are a small, but active and diverse parish with wonderful students eager to learn about their Catholic Faith. This year’s session of religious education classes began in September and will continue through May 2020.

We are focusing on our basic religious education, following the guidelines of the Diocese of Corpus Christi. Another focus is a more detailed study of the Apostles Creed for our older students, to understand each line as we ponder this important prayer.

Holy Cross Church is blessed with numerous statues and sacred art in our historic church. For the weekend of All Saints Day our students took a study tour of our church to learn more about all the saints depicted in our church and chapel. The saints include St. Anne, St. Therese, St. Martin de Porras, St. Katherine Drexel, Saint Sebastian, St. Charles Lwanga and the Ugandan martyrs, St. Juan Diego, St. Anthony, St. Kateri Tekakwitha, St. Elizabeth Seton, and others. We took turns reading a brief story of the saints in our church and chapel. We were all left wondering and asking questions, discussing the lives of these saints. We look forward to learning more about all these saints and more as we continue our studies.
