Mother Mary Lange, O.S.P. Award Honorees

On Friday, February 8, 2019 at 7:00 p.m. at Martins West, the Office of Black Catholic Ministries of the Archdiocese of Baltimore hosted the 22nd annual Mother Mary Lange, OSP Awards Banquet.

The purpose of the banquet is to affirm and celebrate the parish leadership and the services rendered by Black Catholic youth and adults in the Archdiocese of Baltimore. The designated areas of ministry include leadership, service through the corporal works of mercy and youth who illustrate both service and leadership within their parish and the archdiocese at large.

This awards banquet is named after Mother Mary Elizabeth Lange, OSP, co-foundress of the Oblate Sisters of Providence. Her life and ministry provided great example and Christian witness of leadership and service. Her desire to please God ignited in her heart and soul while she was young. Thus, the categories celebrated at the Mother Lange Banquet are worthy characteristics of Mother Lange for all generations to follow. The decision to sponsor the celebration during Black History Month, honors Black Catholics who are creating Black History in this era. We are appealing to everyone to lead and serve our communities. The thirty-seven award recipients came from fifteen parishes.
Most Rev. Denis J. Madden, D.D., V.G, the Urban Vicar of the Archdiocese of Baltimore gave opening remarks and Sister Rita Michelle Proctor, OSP Superior General of the Oblate Sisters of Providence offered some reflection about Mother Mary Lange’s story and mission.
