The Love Project at Sisters Academy of Baltimore

Sisters Academy of Baltimore

This summer, our students had the unique opportunity to work alongside professional artists who have transformed Baltimore City through more than 20 displays of meaningful public art. The “Michael Owen Sisters Academy Mural” is a collaborative “living mural” project at the Sisters Academy of Baltimore titled “Of Me To You.” Led by Michael Owen and the Baltimore Love Project team, the LOVE Project at Sisters Academy represents more than just creating art – it is about building community connections, developing artistic skills, and empowering our young women to express their voices through creative collaboration.

The process was very simple. The artists painted a signature LOVE mural against the exterior brick wall of the school gymnasium. The patchwork design and colors for the mural came from the school’s logo. Each student wrote a love letter to herself and painted excerpts onto the school gymnasium wall. The artists left paint and lots of room in the mural for future classes to partake in this powerful exercise and expand the vision of love.

The LOVE mural is a vibrant and deeply meaningful work of art that can speak to each viewer in a unique way. But here at Sisters Academy, it holds a truly special significance. For our students, staff, and faculty, this mural is not just a regular piece of art. It is a living, breathing representation of our students’ hearts, voices, and journeys. This beautiful mural would not have been possible without the vision and devotion of Michael Owen and team of dedicated artists who brought the students’ voices to life in such a beautiful way.
