Prayer is the Center of Our Lives

April 05, 2024

St. Peter the Apostle, Pascagoula

During the month of the Most Holy Rosary of the Blessed Virgin Mother (October 2023), the Rosary was recited in the homes of parishioners by the Rev. Emmanuel Awe, SSJ for thirty days. He travelled with a box of intentions from parishioners to pray over as one family in Christ. It was a personal touch to bring prayer in the homes of his parishioners. Families grouped together to recite the Rosary while others prayed silently and listened through conference call in our homes. At the end of the Rosary, the Pastor’s provided accounts of our Blessed Mother life during meditation. Inspired by the Pastor’s calling to pray, we were blessed with over eighty-five attendees at the Rosary Rally on October 26, 2023. This Rosary activity was led by the students in the Religious Education classes.

Twenty Altar Servers were recognized during Vocation Sunday for their service to the Pastor. As we encourage the “Called By Name,” we displayed the six vocations from our church (Bishop Carl E Fisher, SSJ, Most Reverend William Norvel, SSJ, Past Superior General, The Josephite; Brother Charles Douglas, SSJ; Sister Mercedes Ernst, OSP; Sister Judith Theresa Barial, SSHF; and Sister Mary Alexis Fisher, OSP, Past Superior Mother of the Oblate Sister of Providence; so that we could nurture young people to a religious order. On November 26, 2023, Deacon Richard Smith spoke to the male youth and parents about his own calling to the vocation. In addition, Sister Emily, SSHJ and Sister Beatrice, SSHJ spoke to the female youth and parishioners.

Leaders in the parish participated in the Project Rescue during the month of November. This initiative is ongoing and will continue until all members have had the opportunity to attend the sessions with the Pastor.
