Sacred Heart Catholic School

We started the 2019-2020 school year with 52 students, down just a little from last year. Our current Native American population is 21% again this year.

Funds from the Black & Indian Mission Grant help us to provide Christ-centered education through the 8th grade. Without these funds, we would not be able to sustain the additional teacher necessary at the middle school level. Our parents continue to report a desire for middle school education (and even beyond that to high school), but it will take time for the number of students to be sufficient to fund this position without assistance. At the request of our many of our parents, we have also started to discuss the possibility of offering high school classes in the future, with several “high school exploration” meetings having been held so far this year.

Our school continues to partner with the community at the annual Keweenaw Bay Indian Community pow-wow in July and with Most Holy Name of Jesus/St. Kateri Tekakwitha Parish to provide a pro-life display during October (Respect Life month). We continue to look for ways to evangelize in the greater community.

We are so grateful to the Black and Indian Mission for the continued support of our school!
