St. Kateri Feast Day Mass

August 08, 2025

Mary Mother of Mankind Parish in St. Michaels Arizona

On Monday July 14, 2025 (Feast Day of Saint Kateri) Bishop of Gallup James S. Wall celebrated mass with parishioners at Mary Mother of Mankind in St. Michaels Arizona. It was founded by Saint Katharine Drexel: The Patron Saint of the Black and Indian Missions and serves approximately 6000 Navajos in the area. This parish is the most well known parish on the Navajo Nation.

The celebration marked a milestone for the parish as it was the first time the feast was formally observed there. Bishop Wall highlighted St. Kateri's virtues of humility, charity, unity, and her deep prayer life. He provided specific encouragement to look to her as an example during hard times. This parish was formerly supported by the Franciscans for over 100 years and is now supported through parishioners and diocesan efforts. Black and Indian Mission has been instrumental in helping us continue to evangelize and provide a parish for our Native American Community.
