St. Peter Claver Catholic School

St. Peter Claver Catholic School continues to educate students as one of the oldest black schools, public or private, still functioning in Hillsborough County, Florida. We celebrate every year in September with a Mass where the students, families, and parishioners and later with a picnic sponsored by St. Peter Claver Catholic Church. This Winter, the students also got a treat by being able to listen and participate to Babatunde Akinboboye Largo, who is a Hip Hopera artist. The students really got into a little bit of Opera through hip hop music that most are accustomed to. He also entertained at the annual gala.

During the month of October, we also celebrated the diversity of our world. We had a multicultural day where each class selected a country and learned about that country. Then at the end of the week, they transformed their classrooms into the countries they had chosen. Students learned from at least 3 different cultures that they visited and presented.
During the Fall season, the teachers also celebrated the students who had accomplished great successes in their academics. Kindergarten through 8th-grade students were celebrated by Dr. Lyons, the school psychologist, for making great choices during the month. The teachers helped the students learn gratitude through the art teacher’s lessons. The month of November was dedicated to learning how each one of us can be grateful for things around us.
The teachers make our school a great place to learn.
