Black Catholic Ministry Commission
Information and Orientation sessions for the Brother Booker Ashe Lay Ministry Program are held in the summer for the Fall Semester and in the winter for the Spring Semester. The ministry is part of the Black Catholic Ministry Commission, Archdiocese of Milwaukee.
On Saturday, August 3, 2019, Sister Callista Robinson OSF, Coordinator of the Brother Booker Ashe Lay Ministry Program, with the assistance from the Planning Team, conducted an Information and Orientation Session for those who are discerning a call to become a Lay Minister. Three perspective students attended the Orientation. Those who were unable to attend on August 3rd made arrangements to attend on another date.
They were given an overview which included the history and background of the Program. The Planning Team stressed the importance of Lay Ministry citing the documents from Vatican II, emphasizing the role and function of lay ministry especially in parishes.
The Admission Process was explained to the perspective students, and the Planning Team gave an overview of all the courses in the Program, noting the courses for 2019-2020.
Perspective students who have filled out the Application Form will attend an individual conference with the Planning Team. At this conference, they will be able to ask more questions regarding the Brother Booker Ashe Lay Ministry Program and Lay Ministry in general.
The perspective students appreciated the information regarding Lay Ministry and the role of Lay Ministers in parishes and in the Archdiocese.
