Holy Family Cathedral School
Holy Family Cathedral School has been blessed to receive a grant from the Catholic Negro American Mission Board. This is a wonderful milestone for our school. We are celebrating our 120 anniversary of the school that was funded by St. Katharine Drexel on September 11, 1899. Our school is also excited to announce that we are transitioning to a Catholic Classical Liberal Arts School. This will include the Liberal Arts and the Great Books for Grades PK-8 Grade. The children have selected electives like band, drama, visual arts, choral and sacred music, and drama sets. They have enjoyed learning Latin and realizing so many connections with their words and the English language. The students in Choral and Sacred Music are learning O Mysterium. The students in the Second Grade are experiencing the history of Ancient Egypt, while the students in the Third Grade are experiencing the history of Ancient Greece. This is an exciting transition we are embarking upon as we continue to support parents in their roles as the primary educators of their children in the faith.
The children have a busy first month of school coming up as our school community participates in the Rosary Run that is promoted as a fundraiser for Saint Michael Radio in the Diocese of Tulsa. The school also has three exciting enrichment excursions this month. The Middle School students will attend the Greek Festival and learn about the sacred architecture and art in the Orthodox faith, sample some Greek food and watch some traditional Greek dancing. The Primary Grades will attend Pumpkin Town to learn more about nature and the life cycles of Fall Squash. They are also growing pumpkins in our urban garden on the east side of the school. The 3rd/4th Graders will attend the One-Room School House in Perry, Oklahoma, where they will experience the life of a pupil on the Oklahoma Prairie by doing classwork and participating in games from that time period.
Continuing the mission of St. Katharine Drexel and under the patronage of the Holy Family, our school continues to support parents from diverse cultures as the primary educators of their children in the faith. May God bless the mission of your organization for the prayerful and financial support you have given us through the years in order that we equip families in our community to grow together in a deeper relationship with Christ.
