Red Cloud Student Council Serves Community Thanksgiving Lunch
In the spirit of Thanksgiving and Wačháŋtognake – the Lakota word for generosity – the Annual Sacred Heart Luncheon is served to our reservation community every November by the Red Cloud Student Council. On November 20, students cooked and prepared 7 hams, 48 cans of green beans, 20 cans of corn, 7 boxes of stuffing, and more than 200 rolls to feed the 180 guests at the dinner. To complete the meal, students and their families also baked and brought homemade pies, cakes and sweets for dessert.
Student council members showed off their leadership skills with minimal supervision by organizing and coordinating all the elements of the Thanksgiving celebration including menu planning, cooking, serving and cleaning up after this special meal. Chris Parker, Student Activities Coordinator, proudly recognized that the students showed genuine character, caring, and their servanthood hearts through hosting this special seasonal event in the spirit of true Lakota Wačháŋtognake.
