De La Salle Blackfeet School
De La Salle Blackfeet School kicked off Catholic Schools Week 2020 with a Sunday Mass hosted by our 8th grade class and other student leaders at our school parish, Little Flower Parish. Following the church service, the congregation was then invited to join together for a breakfast meal prepared by school staff and parents. The community enjoyed the food provided while the Catholic Schools Week class door decorations, each class’s students of the week, and essay contest submissions were showcased.
DLSBS continued the celebration highlighting its identity as a Catholic, Lasallian, and Blackfeet school by sharing with the students the foundations of our Catholic Faith, the call of Saint John Baptist de La Salle to take action through service informed by our faith, and communal values of the Amskapi Pukani (Southern Piegan band of the Blackfeet Confederacy).
Students were invited to enjoy some healthy competition by completing Blackfeet and Catholic/Lasallian trivia scavenger hunts. Students searched the hallways reading quotes from St. John Baptist de La Salle and American Indian leaders, the back of which revealed the trivias’ answers. The 7th grade class were awarded the highly coveted “best door decorations” for Catholic Schools Week by our parish secretaries.
Our traditionally held weekly Thursday mass was a particularly special event. During this service, DLSBS highlighted the importance of Catholic Education and also had two students undergo the Sacrament of Baptism and seven students the Sacrament of First Holy Communion.
The Catholic Schools Week celebration traditionally concludes with a Faculty versus Student basketball game; however, because of the ongoing volleyball season, the staff decided to switch it up and host a volleyball tournament against the students. Tensions were high as each class competed against the staff, but ultimately the staff won out in the end. While this encouraged the staff, they predicted that in a few months, they won’t be so lucky competing against the students in basketball during our Founder’s Week celebration.
De La Salle wishes the Catholic Indian Mission Schools and all Catholic schools a blessed school year.
Live Jesus in our hearts,... Forever.
