St. Charles Lwanga Center
One of the ministries of the St. Charles Lwanga Center in St. Louis is directed towards formation of the Sacrament of Confirmation for youth from 7th - 12th grades. Entitled, "Living the Life" it is a faith building and peer bonding series of months prior to the administration of the sacrament in May. Inclusive of the formation is a day of reflection, highlighting prayer, Biblical exploration, a deepening of the more mature commitment to the faith as part of the individual and communal ideals of being African American Catholics of various ages. Time and research are devoted to the richness of the heritage Black saints and candidates for sainthood.
While not a requirement to choose one as a Confirmation name, most students do in fact choose them, in the fascination and pride in knowing more than they knew about these legacies. In accord with the mission of the St. Charles Lwanga Center, the program is comprised of students from a cluster of parishes. This year there are representatives from St. Alphonsus "Rock", St. Augustine, St. Elizabeth, Mother of John the Baptist, St. Matthew the Apostle and St. Nicholas. The anticipated date for administration of the Sacrament is May 5, 2020.
