Holy Family Classical School
The opportunity to serve our African American community in Tulsa has just gotten bigger! In addition to our generous grants through the Black and Indian Missions, an anonymous donor has awarded the school $50,000.
Founded more than a century ago by St. Katharine Drexel, Holy Family Classical School is the parochial school of Holy Family Cathedral Parish, the Mother Church of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Tulsa and Eastern Oklahoma. The Cathedral and school are located in the heart of Tulsa, downtown, and have a rich history of diversity. The Cathedral located one mile from the historic Greenwood District was a source of much comfort for those who suffered during the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre. Religious and lay sheltered and tended victims in the basement of the Cathedral while their beautiful community was looted and burned. The school was founded in an effort to bring education and formation to the Native American and Black population in the Tulsa area.
The generous gift given to the school is designated for the African American population from the Greenwood district whose community is still suffering the affects of the Tulsa Race Massacre. These funds have enabled several students from the Tulsa Metro to attend Holy Family Classical School. These students are an integral part of not only our student body but also in sustaining the original mission St. Katharine Drexel had for our school.
