St. Francis of Assisi - Lumberton, NM
We have experienced another successful school year at St. Francis of Assisi. All of our students were promoted to the next grade. In addition, we had several events this year. The Science Fair was attended by family and friends. Students in grades five through eight who place first, second or third were eligible to attend the regional competition.
Social studies was a focal point this year. The ninth annual International Day featured over fifty countries! Students researched a country of choice finding information on customs, holidays, food, music, and much more. They created displays, served food of the country and some dressed in traditional dress of his/her country.
We added a new celebration this year, Presidents’ Day. Students continued to hone their research skills finding information on a U.S. President of his/her choice. Displays included pictures, the president’s early life, family life as well as political life. Since students enjoyed this day, it will likely become an annual event.
Three eighth grade students graduated on May 22, 2023, during the weekly school Mass. Each student received a certificate of completion of grade eight and a Youth Bible to accompany them during their next life phase.
We are grateful to the Bureau of Indian Missions for their support through an annual grant. This helps us to keep our mission going forward!
