Spring Semester is a Busy Time for Grambling Students

St. Benedict Church and Campus Ministry - Grambling State University

The spring semester at Grambling State University was a busy one for the students who are a part of the Catholic Student Organization (CSO). In addition to their studies, members of the organization attended weekly Mass and study sessions at the Catholic Center, helped clean up the area around St. Benedict Catholic Church (located on campus), and participated in fellowship events such as game night and monthly parishioner/student luncheons. The students spent several days “sprucing up” the campus of St. Benedict and helped with minor repairs. The game nights have become popular among the CSO students and include board games, billiards, ping pong, and an online interactive trivia game that can be played with their phone. The CSO is sponsored by the parish of St. Benedict Catholic Church and grant funds from Black and Indian Mission, and is a hub for students to study, socialize, eat meals, say the rosary and conduct bible studies, and even do their laundry. It is a comforting place for many of our students, especially the ones who are from another country. Funds from the Black and Indian Mission are vital to the success of this program as St. Benedict is a small parish comprised of elderly parishioners. The parishioners are not able to give much financial support to CSO, but their interaction with and support of the students is a vital part of their college experience.
