Ms. Carolyn Perteete, Lead Administrator at Sister Thea Bowman Catholic Academy, has a hidden talent: her incredible background in performing music. She’s sung for multiple groups for a myriad of occasions such as weddings, birthdays, and holiday events; she’s taught music professionally and privately. And though the annual Nativity reenactment at Sister Thea’s is always a treat on its own, this year Ms. Perteete took it to the next level with the addition of a student choir of fourth, fifth, and sixth grade students. They did an absolutely wonderful job.
The choir performed three songs before the reenactment and a featured soloist sang for each one. Ms. Perteete guided them on the piano and recruited one of her talented colleagues to accompany them on the drums.
The Nativity play began immediately after the choir and featured younger students from kindergarten and first grade. Dressed as barn animals, kings, angels, Mary and Joseph, the guiding star, they also performed three songs that relayed the tale of Jesus’ birth. The audience, who was filled with faculty members, the Extra Mile team, students, and even some from the Extra Mile’s Board of Directors, filled the church with applause for these great performers.
We are incredibly proud of our students and their musical abilities, as well as the faculty like Ms. Perteete that foster their talents into lifelong skills. We already look forward to their performance next year!
