St. Augustine of Hippo Catholic Church
We are most appreciative of the grant from the Black and Indian Mission Office. Due to the pandemic most parishioners did not attend church regularly so we had to adapt our evangelization efforts to meet that challenge.
Our children’s weekly Catechetical program was directed more at parents with weekly materials mailed to them, asking them to go over the materials with their children. This was followed by calls from the Catechists to assist and deal with any questions parents or children might have. We also held periodic gatherings at the Church on a Sunday afternoon to provide community building opportunities for our children.
Since many of our adult parishioners did not attend Church during the pandemic, we mailed weekly evangelization materials to them along with our bulletin. We also live-streamed our Sunday Mass on Face Book and had a very positive response.
Our Youth Ministers have maintained regular contact with our youth and young adults especially through social media.
This year we were also able to hold our Annual Revival at the beginning of Lent. Bishop Fernand Chei, OFM, Auxiliary Bishop of New Orleans, Louisiana, was our preacher and we had a very positive response to his message. Father Ferd served in the Belleville Diocese in East St. Louis prior to his appointment as Bishop.
We continue to offer additional faith formation materials regularly in the Church to encourage continued growth in our Catholic Faith.
Gratefully in our Lord and St. Francis,
Fr. Carroll Mizicko, OFM
Pastor
