We are so grateful to the Black and Indian Mission for their continued support. We would not be able to survive without the generous help we receive. This quarter, the parishioners were encouraged by two successful fundraisers. Prayers are strong at St Kateri for the continued existence of this beautiful Mission Church. We were blessed by the gift of a beautiful new tabernacle from the Newman Center. We are in the process of building a new table for it in the apse. Previously, the tabernacle was to the side of the altar and restoring it to the center of the altar has been a goal of the parish for some time.
On the last day of the previous quarter, we pulled together for a Dinner Auction and raised $2,600. We can now cover half of the insurance costs through the dedication and hard work of all the regular attendants. It was heartening to see family members, who do not regularly attend church, gather to help with the event. During these social gatherings they witness the fervor that the elders hold for this precious place.
At Christmas, we put on a beautiful meal and thoroughly enjoyed each other’s company.
In this remote area, the priests must travel a long way over mountain passes to reach us. The parishioners are deeply grateful to every one of them for their willingness to serve.
As an example: yesterday, even with the prospect of snow and rain, Monsignor Brady who regularly drives the 64 miles to celebrate with us, was willing to attempt the difficult roads. Thankfully Father Pacheco, had seen the weather reports, persuaded him otherwise. It was the first Sunday in a very long time that we have missed a Mass. A Lenten Day of Retreat is planned with Father Andrew Pacheco and on Saint Patrick’s Day, we will hold a Corned Beef and Cabbage Dinner as another mini-fundraiser.
