Leadership and Faith Formation

All Saints Catholic Church

Black and Indian Grant funding assisted All Saints Catholic Church in promoting, providing materials, food for fellowship, and supplies, and serving as the host church for the public announcement of the archdiocesan Black Catholic Pastoral Plan, We Say “Yes,” Lord. Milwaukee Archbishop Jerome E. Listecki, Chicago Auxiliary Bishop Joseph N. Perry, and Milwaukee Auxiliary Bishop Jeffery Haines blessed the plan. Approximately 200 persons from the central city Catholic community and archdiocesan parishes attended the 2:00 p, Mass and plan blessing. About the same number stayed for the fellowship that followed.

The plan calls for a small core “steering committee,” led by the Director of the archdiocesan office for Black Catholic and Ethnic Ministries to implement pastoral priorities related to Formation: Developing Leaders Across the Life Span; Evangelization, Vocations, Sacraments and Liturgy and Racial and Social Justice.

The announcement event was a first step in changing the way Black Catholics look at the Church, sharing the rich legacy and vision of the Black Catholic Community, and creating a deeper understanding of Black Catholic spirituality.

According to the November 21, 2019 front page Catholic Herald coverage and from the comments of those who attended, the event was an excellent evangelization strategy and a great success. In closing his homily, Archbishop Listecki said that now the question is how will the whole Catholic community respond—including other Catholic ethnic groups—because the mission of Black Catholics and of all Catholics is no less than the mission of Jesus Christ.
