St. Michael Indian High School
The St. Michael Indian School Robotics team, the Navajo Code Writers #11529 earned the Design Award at the 2024-2025 Four Corners FIRST Tech Challenge Championship Tournament on February 11, 2025. Competing alongside their fellow SMIS team, the Navajo Code Breakers #26002, both teams showcased their innovation, teamwork, and problem-solving skills throughout the season.
Although neither team qualified for the World Championship, their dedication, growth, and perseverance remain a source of immense pride. Robotics at St. Michael is more than just an extracurricular activity—it is an integral part of our academic curriculum. Mr. Vason Six leads the 8th-grade Robotics Lab on Fridays, while Mr. Mykl Greene oversees the high school Robotics Lab, both offering two-and-a-half-hour hands-on learning sessions.
This season highlighted the need for expanded competition opportunities, reinforcing plans to enhance oversight and strategic development for the program. Currently, 15 students from grades 7 through 10 actively participate in Robotics after school, while the labs include 16 high school students learning valuable STEM skills that will serve them beyond the classroom.
