Don Bosco Cristo Rey High School & Corporate Work Study Program

On Sunday, January 12th, ten Don Bosco Cristo Rey High School (DBCR) juniors and seniors arrived in Tuscon, Arizona for a week-long immersion experience intended to bring awareness to the migrant situation at our nation's border. Hosted by the Cristo Rey High School in the area, our students and staff members learned about the challenges migrants face today.

Over the course of the week, students visited the border and walked the trails along the wall. They hiked the desert and saw the perilous trek to the United States. Students left water in safe zones, cleaned up trails for easier passage, and prayed for those on their journey.

Later in the week, they visited the Tucson Border Patrol station and were given a tour of the facilities. Students learned about national security procedures, detainment, and drug enforcement. The week concluded with an observation of deportation hearings and meeting with the Honorable Judge Velasco and members of the Public Defenders office.

Our students quickly connected with the San Miguel community and saw first -hand that this crisis is their problem - even though they live hundreds of miles away. Our students realized the importance of staying informed and becoming Christina agents of change and love.
