Mission Report – 2-14-2018
The joint Christmas program presented by St. Benedict the Moor School and Sr. Thea Bowman Catholic Academy was a great success. The band and choirs presented an outstanding program under the direction of their ‘directors-in-training’ from the Duquesne University School of Music.
A combined choir of students from both music programs will sing the National Anthem at the Pirates’ game in PNC Park for Catholic Schools’ night on April 27th. Students are very excited about the upcoming opportunity. In addition, they will present their combined spring program in Powers Hall on the Duquesne University campus in May.
Three students from St. Benedict the Moor participated in the Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science competition. The students won second place, and one student also won a medal in Chemistry. Congratulations to all! At Sr. Thea Bowman Catholic Academy students celebrated the end of the second quarter with their Celebration of Learning. Students were recognized for their academic achievements.
Dancing Classrooms is underway at the schools. Dancing Classrooms is a national program that teaches the basics of ballroom dance to students in fifth grade. In addition to the specific dance skills taught, students also learn social etiquette, cooperation and acceptance. The program is Pittsburgh is managed by Mercy Behavioral Health.
