Most Holy Name of Jesus/St. Kateri Tekakwitha Parish
Most Holy Name of Jesus/St. Kateri Tekakwitha Parish in Assinins, MI extends their appreciation to the Black and Indian Commission for supporting the parish through a rural parish subsidy. Grant money has been used to support construction of a new bell tower at the Native American mission church in Assinins. The bell has been sitting near the ground, uncovered, for years. It now has a proper housing which provides better shelter from the elements, improves the visual attraction of the church and grounds, and is now again a functional bell. Grant money has also gone to support construction of our first Bishop Baraga House. Plans are to build several of these houses on the church grounds to serve as retreat and prayer centers for parishioners and pilgrims visiting the mission church. Visitors can focus on our Lord and the works accomplished by Venerable Bishop Baraga, the Snowshoe Priest, when he served the Native American people here in the 1800’s.
