African American, African and Caribbean Apostolate


It’s been a wonderful year, following the 2018 grant to the African American Ministry in the Archdiocese of Newark. Below is a summary of all we have been doing during the year as well as pictures for your viewing.

• Black Vocation Summit

On Dec 6th 2018, priests of African descent in the Archdiocese of Newark met up with cardinal Tobin for a dinner meeting where they discussed the state of the priest vocations in the black community. This meeting was preceded with several other planning meetings.

• African American - Annual Black Youth Day

On Dec 15th 2018, youths from Essex, Hudson, Bergen, & Union county came together for the annual Youth Retreat led by Rev. Bozeman, to experience the Advent Journey, and also ponder on questions that bring to mind, what it means to be a Christian.

• Day of Reflection on the Fruit of NBCC

On Feb 17th 2019, the Archdiocese of Newark came together with our shepherd Cardinal Joseph Tobin at the cathedral and the Archdiocesan center to celebrate a mass and reflect on the fruits of NBCC.

• African American - Scholarships

On Nov 9 2018, at the Bishop Francis Dinner Dance, The Office of African American, African and Caribbean Apostolate offered 18 kids of African descent in the archdiocese a $500 scholarship each for their dedicated involvement in their community and parish.

• Training for Leaders in the Black Community

In the first quarter of July 2019, The Archdiocese accompanied 14 adult leaders and priests, from 12 different parishes to attend the ongoing formational one week courses at Xavier university.
