February 2023 review for St. Paul's Mission in Hays

March 17, 2023

St. Paul's Mission Parish

St. Paul Mission appreciates the funding that comes from Black and Indian Mission's Office to help with priesthood ministry and expenses to operate the communities on the Fort Belknap Reservation. The travel and salary for the priestly ministry are major expenses that these communities incur. We have been able to maintain regular Mass in Hays twice a month with the assistance of a lay person offering Word and Communion Services on the other Sundays. A retired priest has assisted me to assure that funerals and major holiday Masses are offered. Following the Masses, at the request of some of the parishioners, I hold a question-and-answer session for those who want to have some clarity in the faith. This has been most engaging. One weekend, it led to several requests from the community to have me come and do house blessings. Winter has provided some hinderance to the frequency this year due to blowing and drifting snow. I have continued to be in pursuit of teachers for our school so that we can open again in the fall of 2023. I have been encouraged recently to learn that some sisters from the Dominican Order are considering coming as teachers in this year.
