New Beginnings as St. Francis

October 28, 2023

St. Francis of Assisi School - Lumberton

St. Francis of Assisi School in Lumberton, NM welcomed the new school year 2023-2024 with 2 new co-principals. Principal Elena Talamante is an alumna of St. Francis and had been serving as the 7th and 8th grade teacher for 2 years before her appointment. Principal Aude Isimbi came to St. Francis in 2021 to teach 3rd and 4th grade. The co-principal model will allow our new principals to continue teaching in the classroom.

St. Francis is thankful to the Black and Indian Mission Project as this year we were able to increase our volunteer teaching staff by 40%. This has allowed the school to continue to foster the important values of mission and service. Most of the teaching and administrative staff have connections to St. Francis either as alumni or parents of current students.

St. Francis was happy to welcome the students to the new academic year; especially as 36% of our students this year are new. This is a great opportunity for our students and staff to model the values and virtues of the Catholic Church by teachers encouraging positive affect and students encouraging each other to learn. These same values are reflected in the students' everyday lives at home and in the community. St. Francis is committed to building these community connections and personal development in accordance with the school’s mission.
