Savory, Simple, Soulful Moments

Our Lady of Lourdes-Poplar

The hustle and bustle of summer has begun. School is out for summer break– and with that, for some, kids/families schedules go from school activities to summer activities.

The planting and maintaining of flowers and gardens, keeping the lawn mowed, and just trying to get all of those “projects” that can’t be done in the winter months– done– this is summer!

As peoples personal lives adjust to the seasons, for many, their church lives seem to do the same.

The month of May brings Mother’s Day. Our Lady of Lourdes parish honored our Blessed Mother Mary with an invitation to all children to participate in her crowning. We also acknowledged all of those who play the part of a mother in someone’s life with a cake and coffee social held in the parish center. Something extra– they each also received a flower to help their heart blossom and brighten their day!

The month of June brings an annual event to our community. It’s the biggest event of the year. Everyone plays some part in making it happen. Seeing so many people come together for the same common good is very heart moving– God really does work in many different ways!

The summer months are also a time when people choose to come home to visit, and for some, there are other reasons.

On June 29th, we were blessed to have longtime, faithfully active parish members, who had previously moved to be close to their children for caregiving– and had passed on– be brought home to their chosen final resting place. Our Lady of Lourdes parish held a graveside Memorial Service followed with a luncheon for family and friends

Then into the month of July– still so much busyness for everyone. However, everyone both near and far, all have the same gratitude for one thing– freedom!

The 4th of July brings out the thankfulness within each heart. This shows us people are the same in so many ways– even if some don’t yet see it.

Throughout those summer months as peoples personal– and church– lives adjust to the busy of summertime, we must remember that it can be in these moments our souls can be nourished.

Mowing the church lawn, tending to God’s flowers, lending a helping hand to someone in need, participating, and just being together….these are all savory, simple moments for the soul!
