Office of Religious Education/Youth Ministry
The Diocese of Gallup Office of Religious Education/Youth Ministry was grateful to receive funding from the donors of Black and Indian Mission in 2024. Immediately in the aftermath of the pandemic, there was a two-year search for a new Director, until we finally hired Sister Carol Woods S.F.M.A.
Responsible for the implementation of and guidance for all religious education programs throughout the Diocese of Gallup and youth ministry, she went to work visiting and supporting all the parish programs which were decimated post pandemic. The Director’s position requires substantial travel time and expense, as well as investment in tools for catechetical education and training.
Sister, along with other pastors and sisters, brought 44 students to attend the annual South-West Catholic Youth Conference, (SWCYC) in the Fall of 2024. Support from donors like you were able to support many with supplementary scholarships to attend. Hopefully this will be repeated.
This office also has the component of supporting and aiding the outside Youth Mission groups which come to serve many individuals, parishes and schools in this diocese on their vacation time. It is a valuable opportunity to witness to one another in the Faith. In 2024, twenty-two groups came to serve. Many outside groups come to run the summer Bible camps for the Native American parishes on the Reservation.
We thank the BIMO and its donors for the help to serve our young, especially the Native Americans in remote areas of this Mission Diocese of Gallup!
