St. Martin de Porres School
The students at St. Martin de Porres Catholic School had many engaging activities for the month of February. Keeping to the theme, “Black Health and Wellness”, presenters included a dentist, a nutritionist, storytellers, and many physical outside activities. Each day of the week students had a wellness theme: Mindfulness Mondays, Wellness Wednesdays, Thoughtful Thursdays, and JUMP into the weekend on Fridays. The activities promoted keeping body and minds healthy and active for success in the classrooms.
Dr. Chandra Skyes-Smith a local dentist shared with students in Pre-3 to fourth grade the importance of brushing and flossing daily. Mrs. Sherretta Thomas, nutritionist, shared information on eating healthy. Mrs. Donnie Ashford and Mrs. Carol Brooks, parishioners, shared African Americans stories and distinguish African Americans in the medical fields. The students and teachers learned a lot from our presenters this year. It was a great learning experience for the entire school community.
