Educating Our Parishioners on Advent, Education and African American History

March 01, 2022

St. Peter the Apostle

The parish hosted an Advent Revival on December 13-15, 2021, with Reverend Mr. Michael Jenkins as keynote speaker. He serves as Deacon at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Houston, Texas. The theme was “Preparing our Hearts to receive Jesus Christ.” During the three days, many examples using the Old and New Testaments were illustrated by Deacon Jenkins. The children/youth of the parish hosted a musical during the Christmas play with song, dance, and the birth of Baby Jesus. Twenty students participated in the Santa workshop activities. The Black History program theme was the “Past, Present, and Future.” It showcased a variety of talents by the children/youth of the parish as they recited poems, which articulated the message to the audience about African American heritage. A session was held by Deacon Richard Smith on "Living Out the Great Commission of Jesus Christ", with twenty-five adults in attendance. The session emphasized how to evangelize and move the parish forward during this unprecedent time. We continue to educate our youth on the role of a disciple as we ministry to the group through the Religious Education program, Sunday Mass, Youth Choir and The Saints Praise team.
