Honoring Black Catholic Saints and Heritage at Saint James

December 18, 2024

Saint James Church

During November, Saint James Catholic Church celebrated the contributions and rich heritage of Black Catholics with a special community Mass. The children’s and adult choirs joined together in a powerful display of unity, lifting their voices in song and praise to honor God and the Black Catholic tradition. The Mass was a time of deep spiritual reflection, where we recognized the lives and legacies of Black Catholic saints, whose faith, courage, and devotion continue to inspire us today.

The parishioners were invited to wear African attire as a way to honor the vibrant cultural heritage of the Black Catholic community, embracing the beauty of diversity within the Body of Christ. This celebration not only deepened our understanding of the African roots within the Church but also strengthened our sense of community, fostering unity in faith and love as one family in Christ.
