SMCS is Teaching with Technology

October 30, 2019

St. Mary Cathedral School

With the start of the 2019-2020 school year, St. Mary’s Cathedral School promised to be very exciting for our Middle School student body. For the first time, the students were issued iPads on a 1 to 1 basis as part SMCS’s push for providing technology to each student. Our initiative started with middle school, in an effort to better prepare our students for the transition to High School and beyond. Each middle school student was assigned an iPad which they use throughout the day. The iPads are distributed during Homeroom and collected at the end of each day. The teachers are using applications such as Showbie, Notability, and IXL to deliver content and monitor online discussion boards. Students are also learning to use productivity software such as Pages and Keynotes to complete projects and assignments. The educational benefits of the use of technology in our classrooms are limitless. We look forward to expanding the program to our 3rd through 5th grades in the near future. With this initiative, St. Mary's hopes to provide all of our students with the technological tools that will enable them to becoming contributing members of our global community.
